Our Management Development Programme is an intensive programme that is broken into placements, each lasting 6 months.
You will work in different areas of the business developing unique skills and knowledge in each, ready to take on a Management role at the end of your placements.
The Management Development Programme is based in our Central London office or our office in the Scottish Borders, with the chance to travel extensively.

During my time on the Management Development Programme I worked in three business ‘pillars’: Sports, Retail and Footwear & Licensing, later completing a further rotation in the support function - Analytics.
Inspirational leadership combined with exposure to a wealth of valuable and pertinent experiences, helped to nurture my passion for Retail. I graduated from the programme with a permanent position as Retail Manager and have since progressed into the role of the Head of Retail. Huge responsibilities accompany such opportunities, but the investment shown by the organisation is what makes its special.

For my final rotation I was privileged in managing my own team, where I led and developed individuals while providing exceptional service to all our stakeholders both internally and externally.

My first rotation was taking care of Lyle & Scott’s rich Archive, immersing myself in the history of the company. Through cataloguing & digitising the contents of the Archive, I created resources for the rest of the business to call upon. A particular highlight for me is seeing how Archive garments have inspired pieces in the Design team’s current collections.
Being given full responsibility for an area of the business allowed me to specialise, gaining knowledge which continues to serve me & the business since I finished that rotation.

Whilst completing my first rotation I was also offered the opportunity to visit one of our factories in Turkey to complete quality control checks on our products at the point of manufacture. This was a fantastic opportunity to see a side of the business that most in the company do not experience.
Within my second rotation, I have had the opportunity to travel internationally to complete market research. I’m also currently working on implementing a CRM system which would be used cross-departmentally.
Finally, during our time on the programme, myself and my fellow cohort of MDP’s have supported on two Go To Market events. These events are where our newest collection is presented to our international agents & distributors. Having the opportunity to present during the second event in Marrakech was truly a highlight of my nascent career & one that I won’t forget quickly.”

The responsibility, trust and support you are given is incredible. Despite just joining the business, I feel like I can make a real difference and that my input is valued. The culture here is that of one family. People want to see you succeed in every aspect, and because of that they are also the first to tell you how you can improve on something. I would be lying if I said it was plain sailing! - but the challenge is what builds you and keeps it exciting.
What I love most about working here is that no two days are the same. I’ve gone from organising huge company events, managing retail operations for 4 UK stores, to travelling to amazing locations like Morocco for company launches – to name a few! It helps bring out qualities and skills you never knew you had.
I am currently working as a support to the CEO, I have certainly had to put on several different hats within the business for this role. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the journey takes me.”
Coming into the Management Development Programme with a background in Finance, I had little idea of what to expect. After 10 months, it has exceeded all my expectations and feel like I have developed more in this short space of time than I ever have.
My first rotation in Wholesale put me out of my comfort zone but I learnt to utilise strengths that I never knew existed. The great aspect of this programme is that you are chucked into the deep end and this is exactly what happened to me when I was told to hold buying meetings for some of our largest accounts. It’s a great responsibility to be given at such an early stage in starting the programme and one that is valuable and allows you to grow.

A personal highlight for me was presenting at our Spring/Summer ‘20 Seasonal Launch in Marrakech. It was filled with late nights, early mornings and hard work but it’s not often you are able to travel to incredible locations. ‘Good work means more work’ is one of our sayings at Lyle & Scott and this could not be truer. If you have any expectations before joining, expect to work hard.
I am currently working in E-Commerce and am responsible for managing 4 separate projects. Time management is critical and a role such as this fast tracks you to develop managerial skills.
